    Sculptures on the Street

I’m spending a hot, sweltering summer in Singapore and while going out and about, I noticed something pretty hard to miss: Singapore has many sculptures! There are a number which I have grown up seeing, some that I’ve seen in the last few years, and others that are completely new to me.

Using sculptures as Singapore’s preferred form of public art is, to me, actually a great idea given Singapore’s wide spaces and greenery and its buildings’ shiny facades. The sculptures are mostly located in Singapore’s business and shopping areas, so they are planted perfectly along a tourist’s route! :D

Affordable Art Fair Hong Kong 2015

I’ve been updating a lot about art fairs lately, but this will be my last one for a little while! Affordable Art Fair concluded the spring/summer season of art fairs in Hong Kong, and presented another type of art fair – based on affordability, of course. Talking about Hong Kong makes me miss it dearly, although I am having a great summer here in Singapore! In the meantime, here’s a bit more about art in Hong Kong.

HKwalls 2014/2015 | PoHo Street Art

The great thing about street art is that there’s no set date when the art “exhibition” ends. It stays intact in the same place, at least till the next year when HKwalls reuses some walls to spray paint new artworks! That explains the mashup of HKwalls’ work last year and this year. I went to check out HKwalls’s art before HKwalls 2015 in March this year and saw a few works from HKwalls 2014. But when I went again to see the new works, I realized that a few walls had been repainted!

HKwalls is a street art and graffiti group that invites local Hong Kong and international street artists to paint on walls in Hong Kong. If you’re familiar with Hong Kong, you will know that Hong Kong is not a clean place – at all. Many walls have “real” graffiti on them, so it’s great to see street art on ole Hong Kong walls instead.

Art Basel Hong Kong 2015 | Part II

It’s not actually said, but I feel that the artworks in Hall 1 for Art Basel Hong Kong are overall better than those in Hall 3. In any case, Hall 3 has less gallery booths than Hall 1 and less artworks. Here we go with Part II of my Art Basel review, showcasing artworks in Hall 3!

Art Basel Hong Kong 2015 | Part I

It’s taken a while for this Art Basel post with my busy month of school work but it’s finally here! This was my second time attending the fair and I really enjoyed myself again. Art Basel Hong Kong offers a broad range of artworks that runs the gamut from impressive to amusing to introspective, and this year’s edition was no different.

As with last year, I’ve given in to the fact that I would miss some works that I would have really really wanted to see but the halls are just too big not to miss some here and there. The art fair is split into two exhibition halls, Hall 1 and 3, at the Hong Kong Exhibition and Convention Centre and this post is dedicated to Hall 1!
