I'm Ellice Wu, an art historian based in Singapore. I received my PhD in Art History from NTU Singapore. Finding art in the everyday, whether that’s in a great art exhibition or a gorgeous cityscape, Wording Art is a space to put pen to paper on images that I see and love.

New blog post up on Wording Art about the exhibition Impressions of Monet at @gardensbythebay! We waited to visit on my birthday, and it was the best birthday experience I could have asked for! 🩷 #Monet artworks, beautiful flowers 🌺, water lilies, a replica of Monet's house at Giverny 🏡, and a fantastic immersive exhibit by @grande_experiences - this is possibly my favourite exhibition in Singapore in 2024 so far!

Convocation is done and dusted, and my family and

Convocation is done and dusted, and my family and I had the best time celebrating this huge milestone! I was so excited to receive my PhD gown and bonnet, and we took it out for a spin at my favourite photo spots in the NTU campus and in town at Gardens by the Bay! 🌷🌷🌻🌹💐🎈
As always, I am so grateful for my family, friends, the best supervisors, and all of the various people I've met at NTU and beyond who have brought me to this point. So thankful for the conversations, advice, commiserating, and just so many memories over the last few years of this incredible journey. 🦉 It's time for a new era! 🌟
P.S. I bought my Minnie Mouse graduation plushie at Hong Kong Disneyland last year, and had to add a PhD bonnet to complete her outfit - in pink! 🩷

I've spent the last few years researching Angelica

I've spent the last few years researching Angelica Kauffman and her London self-portraits. So when I heard that the @royalacademyarts was re-staging a solo exhibition of Kauffman's works (where the initial run was cancelled in 2020 due to the pandemic), I knew I had to make a visit to London happen! 🧳🇬🇧
It was a privilege to visit London again, and to also have my family view firsthand Kauffman's works which I've dedicated so much time to studying for so long! I had the best time seeing so many of Kauffman's paintings and self-portraits up close - and I thought the exhibition was just wonderful. 🖼️

Some snaps from 2024's edition of @ilightsingapore

Some snaps from 2024's edition of @ilightsingapore! I finally made my way over (only to the Marina Bay area) on Friday and it was nice to see so many people turning out for it! I'm also quite sure it's the first time I saw queues set up to interact with some of the popular exhibits...!
My faves were the giant inflated rocks which look pretty cool closeup, and the ring of mist!! 🤩✨

PhDone!!! 🎉 I had my oral exam last Friday and

PhDone!!! 🎉 I had my oral exam last Friday and I'm very delighted to share that I have passed without further changes! 💫
I've been trying to process the whole defence experience and everything else that went down over the last 4ish years, but it all still feels too surreal. 🥺
Certainly, this entire PhD journey has only been made all the better thanks to the many brilliant people I've met along the way! I'm so thankful for my friends, family, professors, and supervisors — for all of your support and encouragement, thank you!!! 💖

I'd never attended an auction preview before - eve

I'd never attended an auction preview before - even when living in Hong Kong where there are constant previews going on. So I finally decided to see the @christiesasia preview for artworks, jewelry and handbags currently in Singapore to be sold next month at the Hong Kong auctions! 🖼️💍👜
Of course my favourites were the paintings (for the 20th and 21st century art day sales), and I share a few highlights here! Do take the chance to check them out at the lovely @theartshouse - it's showing only till tomorrow, 25th April! I should also keep an eye out to see how much these eventually sell for... 👀

It might be the first time I'm doing this, but I wanted to share some of my favourite things/places/experiences I've seen and loved this year in 2023! While I might remember this year later as the year I finished my thesis (which is now even more crazy to think about!!!), I'm so happy that this year I also managed to read more for leisure again, see quite a bit of artsy things, and went on a proper holiday for the first time in years! Taking time to be grateful and appreciative for the things and people around me. 🌟💞

3 - AI portrait at @hkmoa, loved my very own Renaissance portrait 🖼️

5 - Souvenirs from Hong Kong, does it matter that 3 out of my 4 souvenirs are from @hkdisneyland?? 😻
6 - The @vangogh.experience in SG was the best! 🌠
7 - Tulipmania at @gardensbythebay, loved seeing tulips for the first time and loved the Türkiye theme!! 🌷
