It might be the first time I'm doing this, but I wanted to share some of my favourite things/places/experiences I've seen and loved this year in 2023! While I might remember this year later as the year I finished my thesis (which is now even more crazy to think about!!!), I'm so happy that this year I also managed to read more for leisure again, see quite a bit of artsy things, and went on a proper holiday for the first time in years! Taking time to be grateful and appreciative for the things and people around me. 🌟💞

2 - Chasing sunsets at Avenue of Stars @avenueofstarshk 🌇
3 - AI portrait at @hkmoa, loved my very own Renaissance portrait 🖼️
4 - Best cutest purchase of the year!!!! @linefriends x @urdu.hk 🐻
5 - Souvenirs from Hong Kong, does it matter that 3 out of my 4 souvenirs are from @hkdisneyland?? 😻
6 - The @vangogh.experience in SG was the best! 🌠
7 - Tulipmania at @gardensbythebay, loved seeing tulips for the first time and loved the Türkiye theme!! 🌷
8 - I fully embraced the year of Disney100 💯
9 - Revisiting Cloud Forest at @gardensbythebay! 🌺
10 - Revisiting the beautiful @hku campus 😍

Merry Christmas!!! 🎄🎅🎊❄️☃️🎀🎉🎁💞 And wishing everyone a very happy new year!! Some photos of Christmas decorations from Hong Kong - there were too many but I had to stick to only 10 photos! 🎄 Such a gift and a blessing to revisit Hong Kong - it has been too long~~~!! 💕😍

I only learnt today that November 1st is International Self Portrait Day! Sharing my favourite self-portrait by Angelica Kauffman (the subject of my PhD research) which I'm still so hoping to see in person! 🤩 I was so sad when her solo exhibition @royalacademyarts was cancelled in 2020, and it's so exciting that this exhibition will be held once more next year! Kauffman will also be included in a group exhibition on 'Women Artists in Britain 1520–1920' at @tate next year, so I'm looking forward to 2024 already~! 🌠

I submitted my PhD dissertation last week!!! This

I submitted my PhD dissertation last week!!! This baby is finally out of my hands and I'm so happy, so proud, of all of the work that has gone into this over the last four years. 💛 There were many moments especially in the last few weeks when I worried over the deadline, but we made it!!! Here's to hoping the examiners like it enough before prepping for defence! 💪
My sister @citygirlcitystories got me this super cute owl balloon 🦉 to celebrate my thesis completion and I got more balloons from @nccsg @nccrockkidz on Sunday which I loooove! 🤩 (in pic 2)
Also an appreciation post for the various libraries and cafes that I worked from, plus the brilliant library resources that we have here in Singapore that still amazes me! Also the all-important work cubicle in NTU which I miss already hahaha! Bonus appreciation for the things that got me through the daily grind: cat videos 😻, Masterchef Australia 👩🏻‍🍳 and 80's music 🎶!!!!

On this grand International Museum Day, I find out

On this grand International Museum Day, I find out that the 'Angelica Kauffman' exhibition is returning to the @royalacademyarts next year! 😻 It was set to open in 2020 but was cancelled due to the pandemic.
Ah what's a girl to do... I'd made plans then in 2020 to see the exhibition and will definitely have to see it this time around! 🙏
As for today, I didn't manage to go to a museum but was busy writing away at my thesis ✍️ Here's to dreaming about all the museums / exhibitions to visit in the next year... 🥂

Pic 1: 'Ulysses on the Island of Circe', 1793 (on loan from the Barrett Swiss collection)
Pic 2: Closeup of 'Composition', 1778-80, on the ceiling of the RA entrance! 🤩

I can't believe how fast time flies and it's already been a year since I visited London! On this day last year I spent the day at the very gorgeous @courtauld and here are some of my favourite paintings by (in order) Manet, Renoir, Cézanne, Degas, and Rubens. 💛
And then there are the reproductions of Kauffman’s ceiling paintings in the Rubens room! I almost fell over when I finally noticed them 🤣 Also love that pink palette for the ceiling! 💗 Thought it was fitting to share these pictures today too because I've finally finished writing about Kauffman's ceiling paintings in Somerset House for a chapter in the ole dissertation! Ah can't wait to revisit again... 🤩

Happy International Women's Day! Celebrating today

Happy International Women's Day! Celebrating today by sharing the only (!) Self-Portrait by Kauffman that I could see when I was in London last May, at the gem that is Kenwood House. 💛 They have 5 Kauffman's - all on display! - which made me very happy~ It's always a joy and an invaluable experience to see art up close and in person! 🤩
